Ed. note: Yesterday afternoon I was on the way home from knitting with Ravelers at Panera, and I stopped at the store for a quick loaf of bread, and damned if I didn’t fall for the oldest trick in the book: the old Supermarket Parking Lot Ploy. Home I came with 5-week-old kitten, the last of a stray litter found by local guy after they’d been abandoned in empty lot near his apartment. New kit hasn’t yet revealed his name, and he’s in solitary until he gets over the sniffles and finishes the antibiotics. But I think he’s going to fit in just fine.

Awww! What a cutie! Everyone needs a cat in my opinion
And the tsweater is looking good! Thanks for building up the cutting of the neck steek. I personally would have been let down if you had posted only one little line about it

Oh, my goodness….that baby is CUTE. And only 5 weeks old? Poor baby! That is too young to be away from mama, even if you are a good surrogate, you don’t have milk. Can I pet him? Please?
September 15th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Welcome, little orange mister!
You have a great home there.
What’s your name?
; )
September 15th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Awwww he looks just like Ripple when I got him! So freakin’ CUTE!
September 15th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Would it be wrong to suggest his name is meant to be Belshazzar??
September 15th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Beautiful, handsome markings on the new little guy! Especially his face. Awwwwww!
September 15th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
So cute!
It’s hard to resist kittens.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Beautiful beautiful boy!!
And hey, you were smarter than me, in the same situation I came home with TWO 6-week old brothers (now just about a year old!) with ear mites. Can I say twice the meds, twice the neutering fee, twice the torn up furniture? Ah, but they BOTH sleep on my lap and that, of course, is priceless!!
September 16th, 2008 at 12:50 am
Oh, what a handsome little man!! That little NOSE!!!!
September 16th, 2008 at 1:10 am
OMG
KITTEN
we have a five week old with the sniffles too, although she’s just a foster cat. isn’t it amazing how tiny they are?
September 16th, 2008 at 1:47 am
All I can say is I am glad I went to King Kullen!! He is just to cute to pass up and my old gals, 4 female cats, would not have been happy. He really is just adorable though.
September 16th, 2008 at 3:47 am
What a little redster he is!
That’s how I got my Chloe, only about 4 wks old, and the parking lot was for my chiropractor. . . .
September 16th, 2008 at 5:01 am
Awww… he is just too cute for words. I love the penny for scale. I had a flash of when my cats were that small (it’s almost when you see a human baby and you remember when your kids were that small!)
September 16th, 2008 at 6:33 am
He’s such a cutie! I think he looks like a mischievous little Loki
September 16th, 2008 at 8:03 am
I hate to be redundant, but AAAWWWWWW!!!! Not much else to say right off the bat.
Don’t forget to check FeLV, FIV and FIP status….
So what do Ptolemy and co think of you? (speaking of whom, we haven’t seen him lately; all okay?)
September 16th, 2008 at 8:10 am
If there was ever a kitten that needed kisses on its nose, it’s this one. Stat!
September 16th, 2008 at 8:51 am
A testarossa! Assuredly, he is the dream of the crop.
Cheers from the basil patch

September 16th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Well, drat, I’m just going to have to go get a new kitten now, aren’t I?
September 16th, 2008 at 10:29 am
He looks almost exactly like our little Liam, when we brought him home in late June. We had a good week or two of biting our nails and making friends with the nurses at the emergency vet, but now the little purr-monster follows us (and our 75-lb orange dog) around, jumps on anything that moves, talks to everyone all the time, and snuggles absolutely adorably. I watched him walk over the dog’s back and then snuggle up under his chin earlier this morning… before attacking on the poor patient dog’s tail with teeth and all four sets of claws. We’re absolutely enamored — even the dog. Enjoy getting to know your little man!
September 16th, 2008 at 11:25 am
Well, hello, little man. You look just like my neighbor’s Rupert (Rupi for short). You found a very good mum, you lucky little guy.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Adorablzzzz! The quest for a name can be lengthy, but you’ll keep us posted, of course.
September 16th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
He looks like a Steek to me.
Purdy!
September 16th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Awww - I just love a marmalade kitty. Hope he gets over his sniffles soon!
September 16th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
Some things are Meant To Be. Wee fuzzy orange kittens? Yeah… they’re one of those things.
Congrats on your new baby… he’s adorable!
September 16th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Another LUCKY ORANGE CAT! He’s adorable! We have two.
September 16th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
We live with one supermarket parking lot special, and one who catnapped me in a downtown pay & display lot. They are the bestest! Have fun!
September 16th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
looks like my Joseph (of many shades of orange) when he was little -now a large lanky tom - who believes that he is in charge - and has the dogs backing from him when he is not in the mood to play - should be a great addition
September 16th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
One-inch steek = new family member? I thought you were just gonna have a drink.
Oh, wait. You had the drink first, didn’t you? I get it.
September 17th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Oh, the adorableness of the TOES! There’s just something about kitty toes I love.
I adopted my kitty-girl, Nell (aka Princess Nell, Nellie-Bellie, Fuzzy Belly, etc.), from a rescue group that thought she was a little over a year old. She was probably more like 7-9 months, because she grew 2″ in height and 2 lbs. in weight after I got her. I still wish, though, that I’d had her during the Adorable Kitten stage, because I’m sure she was the cutest of all. She’s a peach/grey/white pastel calico with lemony-green eyes and the sweetest fierce-princess demeanour.
September 17th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! So cute. Snuggle kitty! You’re making me want a cat, even though it seems that cats usually don’t like me.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Orange kittehs is cutest of all!
We’ve had two: our Heinlein passed away last year and now we have Lazarus (yes, we’re Robert A. Heinlein fans around here…) Orange is bestest! (But don’t tell my black cat or she’ll throw a fit!
Congrats! And I like the name “Belshazzar” too! Or Tailor (maybe spelled differently?) from the Nine Tailors.
Anne.

What a fine looking fellow! Cats Max and Maxine each raise a paw in salute. I raise my paw, too.
September 19th, 2008 at 7:52 am
How fortunate that this kitty found a loving home. I have adopted three cats, the momma kitty was wild (now allows head pats and quick little pick up). Her two kittens actually like my back rubs, all are fixed and given the best food possible. I wish that I weren’t so allergic to them because ideally they should be indoors where they would be safe. Living on a quiet city street gives them a certain amount of safety though and they seem quite content. Animals are so rewarding as I come home evey night to my 3 Standard Poodles so I always feel loved. My cats frequently run up to driveway to meet me as I come home after work and walk me to the door.

He’s absolutely adoreable, and he brings back the days when we “fostered” a kitten. He was about 1/3 the size of your little guy and only 9 days old. He’s not 17 lbs! A beautiful, sleek, shiny black baby. A little shy, but full of love.
September 20th, 2008 at 12:59 am
His name is Marmalade! He has his first initial plainly written on his forehead! A big letter M -
