Wanna Buy a Bridge?
Say yes! Because you know you can TOTALLY trust me, right? You can believe everything I say!
Like, for instance, this:
I am loving this so much that I am tempted to finish it as fine singles. Only… I have a two-ply sample that I made when I first got it home, and that is so lovely that I don’t think I can bear not to ply the rest.
Luckily, I don’t have to commit yet.
For now… I can just keep spinning.
Which I wrote just last night, right?
And what do you suppose I did a scant couple of hours later?
That’s right. I up and plied the icelandic anyway.

I had one full bobbin and the second was a little over half-full - so I knew I had enough singles to fill one bobbin with plied yarn. So I decided not to postpone joy.
In my defense, I also knew that last night was almost certainly going to be my last chance to play with it for, well, a few days at least. Sure enough, the yarn I was waiting for arrived today, so now I have to be All Knitting All the Time, and glad I am to have made my hay while the (midnight) sun shone.
The plying was a bit humbling, very good for my sneaking tendency to lapse into hubris. Funny how the singles that looked and felt SO smooth and even as I spun them… weren’t quite, after all. Apparently I need to be a little less devil-may-care about joining when I work with this fiber. OK, fair enough, lesson learned.
Still - after winding and washing and whacking and drying and re-skeining…

… I’m pretty happy with what I got. There’s room for improvement, of course - but there’s also evidence of improvement. Can’t complain about that.
Also, well, the yarn itself is quite beautiful and soft and yarny. And I really, really love it. Cassie… have I thanked you lately?
I have about 175 yards here, and enough singles/fiber left to make as much again and a little more. I think. Still learning to estimate.
And that’s enough dawdling in the Spinny Department for one day. I’ll keep this by me for occasional fondling breaks, but not more than that - for the rest of the day I’m a knitting/writing fool.
“Golden West,” here I come.
See you on the other side.

So beautiful and even. Sigh. I’m dreading plying the stuff I’ve been spinning - it’s so slubby and uneven! still I hope it will be “lofty” which is the real goal right now. But I’m still spinning the pure Dorset. Have you tried pure Icelandic yet on the wheel??

As long as it’s Golden West and not True West. I still have nightmares about that play.

DH asked what the Tsarina was up to…I told him spinning. He objected. He wants you to talk about Tspinning.

Hey there. ‘Cause clearly you need more to do… I have 4 pounds of silk that needs carding. Hehheh. Because really, what could possibly better for your schedule of getting things done than yet more fiber?
